Our Acclimatization Process

At Fetch Dubai, we prioritize our members’ peace of mind by being exceptionally cautious, putting our money where our mouth is. We understand that the pet care industry often encourages unwitting pet parents and guardians to take unnecessary risks, ultimately at the expense of their dogs.

In a field dominated by easy and convenient ‘registrations’ and ‘evaluations,’ we stand apart by prioritizing the well-being of our current members' dogs over unfamiliar potential clients. We rely on thorough pre-screening rather than taking the word of someone we’ve never met as a safety guarantee. It's not uncommon for pet parents aware of their own dog’s concerning behavior to take chances when evaluations are brief or offered at little to no cost.

As a Private Members Club, those who wish to join Fetch Dubai must successfully complete several steps before, during, and beyond our acclimatization process. Through this process, members can be confident that all dogs in our care have undergone an extensive evaluation, ensuring they are exceptionally well-behaved. This commitment demonstrates our dedication to creating a secure, well-managed space where well-being is prioritized above financial gain.

During the initial acclimatization process, members will experience how our approach to pet care sets us apart from our industry. Dogs will learn pliable skills and manners, although these skills and manner hold benefits for us to facilitate better management of the dogs in our care, the primary focus remains on enriching the relationship between Members and their dogs.

Sit & Stay

Sit and stay practices are foundational commands that are essential for a well-mannered dog. These practices not only enhance a dog’s behaviour but also strengthen the bond between the dog and their human companions.

Sit is one of the most basic commands, teaching the dog to place their rear on the ground and remain in that position until released. This command is useful in a variety of situations, from greeting guests to waiting patiently for a treat. It helps to calm the dog and can prevent unwanted behaviours like jumping on people.

Stay builds on the sit command by teaching the dog to remain in place for a designated period, regardless of distractions. The collar/harness grab is a crucial skill for handling dogs in various situations, such as securing them during walks, preventing them from bolting, or managing them in potentially stressful environments. By teaching dogs to remain relaxed when their collar or harness is grabbed, we help reduce anxiety and ensure they respond calmly in situations where quick control is necessary.

Sit and stay, as well as come-to-touch forms the foundation to enable the ability to easily practice collar/harness grab. The complementary nature of these three exercises is the reason why we believe they remain the minimum skills all dogs should learn whether they attend a facility or not.

Loose-leash walking

Loose-leash walking becomes particularly vital for us when transitioning dogs to different areas within our facility as we do use slip leashes for quick, controlled movements and safety. While slip leashes can be useful for brief management of movement and ensuring safety, they should not be used as training tools. Despite their name, slip/training leashes are designed for control rather than teaching; effective training relies on consistent, positive reinforcement methods.

Mastering loose-leash walking not only enhances communication between dogs and their human companions but also makes outings more harmonious and stress-free. Whether walking through busy urban areas or enjoying a leisurely stroll in the park, this skill enriches the overall dog-human relationship and ensures a safer, more enjoyable experience for everyone involved.

Gate manners

Gate manners are an essential aspect of a well-mannered dog, focusing on teaching dogs to wait calmly and patiently at gates, doors, or entryways. This skill is crucial for ensuring safety and managing transitions smoothly, whether you're entering or exiting a home, vehicle, or any other area.

Teaching dogs to wait for permission before moving through gates or doors not only prevents bolting or running off but also promotes a sense of control and calm in various situations. This skill helps maintain order and ensures that dogs are well-behaved in potentially chaotic or high-stress scenarios.

It’s important to note that mastering gate manners usually requires considerable practice and patience. This skill involves consistent practice, where dogs learn to associate waiting calmly with positive outcomes, such as being invited through the gate. This is where our practices of Sit and Stay, and Come-to-Touch add incredible value.
